Sanctifying the New Moon

Parashat Emor

The Appointed Times (Moedim) of the LORD are of great significance in God’s plan of restoration. The celebration of these times are remembrances of what God has done and they are dress rehearsals for what He will do in the future!

These are the appointed feasts of the LORD, the holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at the time appointed for them.

leviticus 23:4

Proclaiming the Appointed Times at the time appointed for them is not as easy to do as it sounds! It’s a complex process and has been the subject of much debate.

Our practice at Emmaus Road Fellowship is to follow the calendar that was established by the Sanhedrin under Hillel II (circa 360 AD) until the decision to use the observation method is established by one with authority – either the Sanhedrin or Yeshua.

We value this approach because it is in keeping with the authority given to the Sanhedrin in the Torah, it aligns us with the Jewish people and the nation of Israel, and it creates unity within the broader body – the entire nation, for which the appointed times were given.
