Parashat Eikev
There is a positive command to cling to God in Deuteronomy 10:20. But this creates a problem because it raises the question: How does one cling to God when He is a consuming fire?
There is a concept known as devekut (attachment) whereby a disciple attaches himself to a righteous person (tzaddik) in order to learn from him and to become like him.
Yeshua is the true tzaddik, the perfectly righteous one, to whom we are to attach ourselves, and through Him we cling to our Father in heaven.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
