Drawing Near Through the Blood

Drawing Near Through the Blood

Parashat Vayikra

God’s desire for relationship with His people is shown through the sacrificial system. The Hebrew word korban is usually translated as sacrifice or offering, but it’s primary meaning is to draw near, which emphasizes this relational aspect. When people brought sacrifices, they would transfer their identity to the animal through laying on of hands, allowing their life force to safely connect with God’s Presence through the blood. This system points to Messiah’s ultimate sacrifice, which enables believers to enter God’s presence in the heavenly Temple.
