God’s Miraculous Provision

God’s Miraculous Provision

Parashat Beha’alotcha

What should have been an eleven-day trip from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land became a forty-year exile because of the people’s complaints and faithlessness. God had established His presence among them through the tabernacle, given them His law, and provided everything needed for the journey ahead, including God’s miraculous provision of manna, bread from heaven.

The manna serves as a powerful symbol throughout Scripture, pointing to Yeshua, the true bread from heaven. The Hebrew word for bread connects to additional concepts of joining together, waging war, and being a warrior, all which point to Messiah and the work he has done and will do.

Even still, the people actively sought reasons to complain and cultivated cravings for something other than God’s provision, and their discontent spread to the Israelites and throughout the camp. They pined for the things they enjoyed in Egypt while rejecting God’s present blessings, forgetting the oppression they had endured.

When the people rejected God’s provision of the manna and demanded meat, He gave them exactly what they asked for until it became nauseating. This pattern repeats throughout history when people reject God’s provision for temporary comforts. Today, God continues to provide what we need for our spiritual journey, not by might or power, but by His Spirit.
