Parashat Bereisheet
God’s answer to the chaos at the beginning of creation was to send the light. The light is the Word of God, which is also the Torah – God’s instruction and revelation of His righteousness.
The light shines in the darkness bringing order and showing what is good. We have to see the light, receive the light and walk in the light so that God’s righteousness might be revealed in us!
Man’s temptation is to determine what is good based on their own understanding rather than listening to what God has said is good. But the heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9).
We must rule over sin, turn from it in repentance and walk in the light of God’s Torah!
The LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is against you, but you must rule over it.”
